Moscow PET-CT centre welcomes first patients

The positronemisson and computer tomography centre, established by PETRusCo Ltd within the Russian Ministry of Health FGAU Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre has begun welcoming patients and carrying out tests. The radionuclear diagnostics department is integrated with the other diagnostic and therapeutic departments at the centre.

The PET-CT procedure ensures cancers can be diagnosed at the earliest stages and that the correct course of treatment can be administered. The method is based on registering radiation from the radiotracer a compound introduced the patient that accumulates in the tumour and aligning the resulting image with the CT images.

The centre is equipped with a General Electric Discovery610 PET/CT scanner and a range of auxiliary equipment. The technical capability allows for up to 25 diagnostic procedures a day.
